The comments on proposed statutes attached at this page have been sent at [email protected], following the procedure listed below:

All Academy members have been asked to carefully read the text of the statutes and, if they have comments-suggestions-objections to send them until August 10, 2026. The members are asked to send their comments at the e-mail of the Academy: [email protected] with the mandatory subject title: “Comments on the Statutes”. Guidelines for the comments: a) General comments (if any): maximum 100 words b) Comments on specific articles: please indicate the article and sub-article and the alternative proposed. Please write the alternative as statute article and not as free comment.

Frank James: I think article 3 is a bit general as many organisations have similar aims. In my view the IAHS needs to do something distinctive to justify its existence, For instance it would be worth while the Academy taking on the role of promoting the subject beyond the discipline, to lobby for more media coverage, its inclusion in the secondary school curriculum and so on. Specifically, I am against the abolition of Corresponding members and limiting the total membership to 500. Both I feel would be retrograde steps for the Academy.

Noël Golvers: I am inclined too to keep the distinction between corresponding and regular members: some differentiation will, I think, stimulate the dynamics within the academy's ranks.
